For those new to the jailbreak scene, learning how to use Cydia is the first step. On your newly jailbroken iOS device, find the Cydia icon on your Home page and tap on it. The first thing you will be presented with is a request to identify whether you are a User, Hacker, or Developer.
Tap on User, unless you are one of the other options and are experienced enough to know what you are doing.
Cydia will now proceed to set itself up. Follow an on-screen instructions but otherwise, leave your iOS device alone until everything is done.
Now, you are into the depths of Cydia, the greatest non-official app store in the world. This main screen is where you will find everything so let’s have a little run through
Packages are the Cydia name for apps. If you know what you are looking for, this is the button to tap on. You can pick between Featured Packages or Themes, depending on what you want to do with your jailbroken iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
You will be presented with a store tha is similar in function to the Apple App store. Scroll though the lists or tap on Search to find a particular app. You can search by category if you prefer.
Each app has a page of its own, giving you details about the app, the developer or hacker behind it, the price if there is one. This page also tells you which iOS versions and which iOS devices the app is compatible with – read this carefully.
Either tap the back arrow to go back to the list or tap the price section to buy or download it. You cannot use your iTunes account to purchase apps from Cydia but you do need to set up a Cydia account.
Choose from your Facebook or Google logins to create your Cydia account and then follow the on-screen guide. Now you need to link your iOS device to your Cydia account – there’s a button for that!
When you purchase an app through Cydia you can choose from two payment methods – PayPal or Amazon – you will require a valid account with either of these to use them.
Purchasing an app through Cydia is easy once you have set up your account. You can also use Cydia to remove apps you have downloaded or update them. Your first time in Cydia will feel like the first time you entered a toyshop or sweet shop as a child. Enjoy it and have fun experimenting with the apps you find in Cydia.
